The Wankhede Stadium welcomed the team with so much emotion on Friday – the Indian players had just returned home from a victory parade in Mumbai and the country had honored them with love on arrival after winning T20 World Cup trophy in Caribbean. Filled to capacity, this stadium only increased emotions as the team sang ‘Vande Matram’; which the entire arena chanted along with them.
However, when Hardik and Virat Kohli put their hands up towards the crowd indicating that they should join them in singing, suddenly Bumrah was left laughing at something unexpected that happened to Hardik.
It looks like a fan threw a cloth (like a t-shirt) straight onto Hardik’s outstretched right arm before he dropped it startled as he resumed his singing.
Bumrah and Patel were walking behind them in the team’s lap of victory and couldn’t help but notice what happened next.
After a few days delay following their last gasp seven-run win against South Africa in Bridgetown, Barbados on 29th June 2010, Team India arrived home yesterday.
At that time, Bridgetown suffered from hurricane ‘Beryl’, which blocked all air traffic into this airport.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi met players upon arrival before they took flight to Mumbai where they embarked on an open-top bus during a victory parade. Marine Drive turned into sea of fans joyously cheering as buses carrying cricketers moved toward Wankhede Stadium for felicitation ceremony.
