Pakistan secured a convincing 7-wicket victory over Ireland in the second game of the three-match series at the Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin.Despite a shaky start, losing two wickets for just 13 runs in 1.4 overs while chasing a target of 194, the experienced duo of Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan turned the tide in Pakistan’s favour.
They forged a thrilling partnership of 140 runs in a mere 78 balls for the third wicket, leading the visitors to a comfortable win with 19 balls to spare.
Afridi praised the performances of wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and batter Fakhar Zaman, stating, “We needed this win. Well done team, especially the way Rizwan and Fakhar played. We need the same mindset in the World Cup and similar strike rates for most batsmen. Congrats to Shaheen on 300 international wickets, well done.”
Under the leadership of Babar Azam, Pakistan successfully chased down Ireland’s competitive total of 193/7 with more than three overs to spare. This victory marked Azam’s record-breaking 45th T20I triumph as captain. Fakhar showcased his power-hitting prowess by smashing six sixes, while Rizwan played a steady supporting role.
Their partnership of 140 runs in quick succession effectively took the game away from Ireland. Although Fakhar was dismissed in the 15th over, giving the hosts a glimmer of hope, Azam Khan joined the fray and contributed an unbeaten 30 off just 10 deliveries to guide Pakistan to victory. The third and final match of the series is scheduled to take place in Dublin on Tuesday.
