NEW DELHI: The future of MS Dhoni‘s cricketing career remains a hot topic, particularly as the T10 format continues to gain momentum and attract big names.
While uncertainty surrounds Dhoni’s potential return to the IPL amid concerns over his age and fitness, the possibility of him joining the T10 league has emerged as a point of discussion.
Shaji Ul Mulk, founder and chairman of T10 Global Sports, believes that Dhoni’s participation in the T10 format is a real possibility once the former Indian captain decides on his future plans.
This speculation is fueled by the increasing number of high-profile retired Indian cricketers joining various T10 leagues, including the likes of Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa, and Irfan Pathan.
“Absolutely, I think outside of the top level of international cricketers playing, current India internationals are not allowed to play outside of the Indian Premier League. The recently retired players, almost all the big names of India, have come to play T10. So yes, we can expect MS Dhoni to be playing T10 when he makes up his mind,” Shaji told ANI.
The T10 format itself is experiencing a surge in popularity, attracting both established stars and emerging talents.
The upcoming Abu Dhabi T10, with its expanded roster of ten franchises and a record-breaking 179 international players, exemplifies this growth.
The tournament boasts a diverse player pool representing 11 nations, highlighting the global appeal and reach of the format.
Several factors contribute to the T10’s attractiveness. Its fast-paced nature offers a condensed and exciting cricketing experience for both players and spectators.
For retired players like Dhoni, the shorter format could present a less physically demanding avenue to continue participating in competitive cricket.
However, current BCCI regulations prohibiting active Indian players from participating in leagues outside the IPL pose a significant obstacle.
