The Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL 2024) final held at the Brian Lara Stadium on Thursday, was not devoid of extravagant moments, thanks to Aaliyah Alleyne of Barbados Royals who upstaged everyone with her impressive celebration.
After accounting for Jannillea Glasgow with a few overs in the establishment stage and Amanda-Jade Wellington securing the catch, Alleyne ran to huddle with teammates and then prostrated himself.
The moment accurately captured by CPL’s official Social media prevents the team from doing bad which politely states, “what a Celebration frothe conitnued @BarbadosRoyals in the Massy WCPL Final and this happened in the Brian Lara Cricket Academy”.
The wicket changed the Dynamics of the match as the Royals went on to defend their title with an exciting four-wicket win over the Trinbago Knight Riders.
Among the wast majority of action that specific Franklin-Alleyne perfectly executed is breathtaking as well because she reached the end with terrific stats 4/21. A combination of her spell and the two wickets by Hayley Matthews further reduced the total of the Kight Riders to 93/8 in 20 overs.
However, despite the hard work of Shikha Pandey who scored 28 runs and Kycia Knight who was not out on 17, the score was still short of competition.
Chamari Athapaththu scored an unbeaten 39 off 47, striking seven boundaries, and her performance was at the core of the Royals’ chase. Under her leadership, the likes of Matthews, Qiana Joseph, and Laura Harris all chipped in – well in excess of that, with an advantage of five overs remaining.
The victory not only ensured that the Royals won consecutive titles but also emphasized their ability to dominate in every round of the tournament.
