Virender Sehwag, the former Indian opener expressed his thoughts on Pakistan cricket following their T20 World Cup fiasco. He accused Wahab Riaz, the current chief selector of partiality which he thought had negative effects on the country’s cricket.
In November last year, Riaz who is an ex-Pakistani fast bowler was made head of the selection committee by PCB. By the way, it coincided with Mohammad Amir’s return to the national team as a seasoned pacer.
Amir used to feature in same Pakistani team as Riaz did and was one of those that participated in ongoing T20 WC for Pakistan. They however couldn’t progress beyond group stage because they lost both India and USA games.
Therefore, there has been a lot of criticism from Pakistani citizens and ancient cricketers with Riaz and captain Babar Azam being central points of such comments among others like concerns about bowling fitness standards plus possible choices for certain players.
During discussion on Cricbuzz show Virender Sehwag said; “Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir these are two names who criticized Pakistan team on the same Tv channel giving their comments…Today one of them is a selector (Riaz) and one is in playing eleven (Amir).”
“So those people only who were criticizing if today they have power they became selector what first thing have they done? ‘Mohammad Amir was with me lets select him’. Its like if Ajit Agarkar becomes chairman then he will say ‘come Viru come Zak (Zahir Khan)’, I will facilitate your comeback,” added by Sehwag.
While talking about the biased behavior towards Pakistan selectors, Virender Sehwag advised them not to do favors.
“Once you become selector look into future. You have this work use it properly don’t do any favours. This hard step selectors will have to take,” concluded Sehwag.
