Saurabh Netravalkar, the left-arm pacer who bowled USA to a memorable ‘Super Over’ win against Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup on Thursday, has become popular on social media.
Netravalkar was a former Indian U-19 cricketer from Mumbai defended the 18 runs scored by USA in their super over and held Pakistan to 13 thereby setting off celebrations in the USA camp. The two teams tied the game at 159 all forcing it into a super over.
Before he was given the duty of bowling in that Super Over, Saurabh had earlier bowled brilliantly taking two wickets for 18 to restrict Pakistan’s total.
Predictably, Saurabh started trending on social media with everything about him being searched online. In addition to this, his prowess lies far beyond cricket – an MSc degree in Computer Science from Cornell University, works as an engineer at Orcale and is a great ukulele player.
The US then became only the second Test playing nation after Bangladesh within less than one month period to lose against them in T20Is. The T20I series victory over Bangladesh came just before the start of ICC T20 World Cup.
They are now top of group A with two wins out of two matches and will play against India next on June 12th.
