Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s iconic image carrying the T20 World Cup trophy together on an open-bus victory parade through Mumbai, has a backstory that got revealed in unseen footage that unknowingly got captured in Surykumar Yadav’s selfie-cam.
The Mumbai Indians posted this video clip on social media, showing Kohli walking to the back of the bus where Rohit was sitting and asked him to join him for a special celebration. As Virat kept asking Rohit, Surya, who was trying to adjust his camera focus, turned his head back too. At first he hesitated but eventually said yes as Virat held his hand and led him to the front of the bus with an Indian flag in his other hand.
“This is a close-up view of that iconic Ro-Ko image,” read the caption beside X’s post.
India won their second T20 World Cup trophy after defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final on June 29 at Bridgetown in Barbados thus ending a wait of seventeen years. Both Rohit and Virat announced their retirement from T20Is soon after that final match.
Due to hurricane ‘Beryl,’ Bridgetown airport had to be closed so it took some days before they returned home.
MS Dhoni took India to their first ever title win in a T20 World Cup when he captained them during its inaugural edition in 2007.
India also ended their 11-year ICC trophy drought since winning Champions Trophy in 2013 when they clinched the T20 World Cup title of 2024.
