It was a simple chase marred by the Seattle Orcas who went down to San Francisco Unicorns in a 23-run defeat at Church Street Park, Morrisville, Shehan, for their Major League Cricket 2024 match on Monday evening.
Winning the toss and inviting the Unicorns to bat first, Cameron Gannon took three scalps for the Orcas as they limited the Unicorns to 165/7 despite Matthew Short’s 32-ball 56.
The Orcas had reached fifty-four runs after six overs without losing any wicket while chasing one hundred and sixty-six runs.
Shehan Jayasuriya attacked Pat Cummins and Haris Rauf whereas Ryan Rickelton flickered.
In his onslaught against Haris Rauf of Pakistan, Shehan Jayasuriya hit eighteen (18) runs off just six balls during over number six of the Orca’s chase for victory.
Starting with a dot ball, Jayasuriya got an angled delivery that came from round the wicket at him. He tried to ramp it but only ended up getting a leading edge that flew past the left side of the keeper towards third-man for four.
On this occasion he then drove through the covers with good timing on his part. There was also another maximum and boundary from each of his next two deliveries too thus leaving him unbeaten on eleven including those shots.
After making 54 in 37 balls (one six and seven fours), Jayasuriya was caught off Haris Rauf who conceded thirty (30) runs during his spell which lasted four overs without reward.
