The Indian men’s cricket team celebrated their victorious home coming in India following their successful bid for the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy at Barbados ITC.
At ITC Maurya hotel-New Delhi, the team led by captain Rohit Sharma accompanied by head coach Rahul Dravid, vice-captain Hardik Pandya and star player Virat Kohli cut a cake to welcome them back home.
This followed their arrival early morning Thursday with a large number of fans who had thronged Indira Gandhi International Airport despite bad weather. The fans were enthusiastic as many of them waved national flags and bore placards showing support for the team.
To get back to India, it was an Air India charted flight reserved for this purpose which left Bridgetown- Barbados and it was labeled “Air India Champions 24 World Cup” (AIC24WC).
The trip lasted about sixteen hours from Delhi on a non-stop route carrying players’ families, coaches together with other staff, officials of the board and media personnel.
This victory held so much importance since it marked an end to 11 years of drought when they clinched their second T20 world title through a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa thus becoming fourth overall winners in the history of Cricket World Cup in 2024 edition played at Barbados.
Their journey was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl that hit Barbados hence hindering its operation and this added some aspect of resilience to their triumphant returning. On coming back, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with them before later parading victory around Mumbai.
