It is time that the boards and governments of these two neighbouring countries urge, to resuscitate Indian-Pakistan cricket ties as per the former Pakistani skipper and batsman Younis Khan who says it burdens players to play only in ICC tournaments.
The two biggest competitors will meet on June 9 in New York during their group match of the ICC T20 World Cup.
Speaking in Pakistan, Younis said there are many reasons why matches between India and Pakistan do not happen very often. Not only does that place a lot more pressure on teams but it also prevents them from producing more stars.
“We have always said, ‘India-Pakistan series must go on’. It’s not about one game or two games,” said Younis, who played 118 Tests, 265 ODIs and 25 T20Is for Pakistan. “When you lose this match (in the world cup), both sides are under tremendous pressure. So if we keep playing again and again then this pressure could decrease slightly.”
“Therefore, I think that both our governments should unite for sports sake. The players are okay (with it), even we see a lot of nice gestures from both the teams, players share their thoughts, there is good environment. ”This was added by Younis.
“So I believe the governments and the boards should step forward to organise this series.”
Pakistan will host ICC Champions Trophy which returns in 2025 with all India fixtures being scheduled at Lahore as per a draft schedule by PCB . However BCCI would need to consult its government before taking any decision as they are reluctant to travel to Pakistan.
