The current Pakistan team led by Captain Babar Azam remains a subject of criticism for their poor performance in the T20 World Cup, where their fate of reaching the ‘Super 8’ stage is not theirs alone.
First match with USA, who are 2009 winners, ended up in defeat in a tiebreaker after “Super Over”. And after that they have been beaten by India with 32 overs played and 40 in total, hence showing weak characteristics of this nation which were visible through some previous encounters between these two countries.
However they managed to beat Canada on the third day but now it’s only one match against Ireland and two points out of three games. So having other teams win their matches as well is necessary for them to be second within the group and get promoted into the next round
This has caused much outrage from former players of Pakistan on Babar and his team. Such a video post is also seen where ex-Pakistan captain Salman Butt criticizes Babar & Co.
“That our skipper says himself king to that one being best fast bowler ever,” said Butt pointing at Shaheen Shah Afridi perhaps with his fingers. “We sometimes compare him with (Virat) Kohli…and sometimes we put this guy side-by-side with (Jasprit) Bumrah…Yes! There was ICC top ranking moment but let touch reality. Do you win cricket game by yourself? Is there any standard about us?
“It’s like those YouTube thumbnails you want to click on.”
Butt went ahead saying that some of decisions made in Pakistani Cricket are influenced by social media campaigns.
“Social media one bad thing is; you can do anything by paid campaigns… your decisions based on paid campaigns,” Butt said.
“We should bring these self-proclaimed greats back on earth and (tell them to) stay who they are. We will play tournament first or may be win a big match, win against any team when it is under pressure and then think about it,” Butt added in anger.
He also said that you cannot compare with India at this juncture who have grown with the game and are mentally a much tougher unit now.
“India is very different from us…Their mental superiority is winning them matches…Because of being consistent, because of playing tougher teams, playing better cricket and giving better results, mentally they are accustomed now. They don’t feel the pressure now like they used to earlier,” said Butt.
“But we haven’t grown. There are changes in cricket every year, but we are not growing with that, so we are getting weaker. The other teams are growing, mentally as well.”
