The only player who is yet to come to the USA from India’s T20 World Cup squad is star batsman Virat Kohli. Meanwhile, other 18 cricketers were having their training in New York since Wednesday, including four reserves, but Kohli’s arrival date was still unknown.
Recently, however, he was seen in Mumbai with his wife Anushka Sharma and former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan and reportedly wants an extended break after a grueling two-month long Indian Premier League (IPL).
“Thus far there has been silence regarding his travel arrangements by the BCCI”, ESPNcricinfo mentioned . His last match was on May 22 when RCB lost to Rajasthan Royals at IPL Eliminator.Kohli is expected to be in new york on friday
“Kohli took a break for personal work after RCB’s IPL ouster and in all likelihood, he will join the squad by Friday,” said the news agency.
Doubts still exist about whether Kohli would feature against Bangladesh as they have only one warm-up match scheduled for Sunday June 1st.
“It is unclear if he will play any part in Saturday’s only warm-up game against Bangladesh after what will be a lengthy flight,” PTI added.
In the recent IPL season, Kohli had another brilliant season and won his second Orange Cap with 741 runs from 15 matches at a strike rate of 154.70.India will open their campaign on June 5th against Ireland at New York before meeting arch rivals Pakistan on June 9th which promises to be a block buster of a match. On June12th they meet host country USA then move down southwards to Lauderhill , Florida where they play Canada on June 15th.
