Virat Kohli has finally taken off to the United States, on Thursday, amidst widespread speculations, to join the Indian squad preparing for the T20 World Cup.
But it is not clear if he will be available for India’s solitary warm-up match against Bangladesh this Saturday following his long flight.
Kohli’s experience and form are key in India’s campaign as they aim to recapture the T20 World Cup title they won in their inaugural edition back in 2007.
Fans and cricket analysts keenly await his exploits on American soil where he is deemed to play a pivotal role in India’s quest for glory in the prestigious tournament that starts on June 1.
Kohli is the only player from India’s T20 World Cup squad who has yet to arrive in USA. The other eighteen cricketers which include four reserves began their training sessions in New York yesterday.
He showed an impressive batting display throughout IPL where he managed to score a total of 741 runs just within 15 matches. As a result of such fantastic performance, he was once again awarded Orange Cap – one of the most prestigious accolades given annually to highest run scorer in IPL. Moreover, Kohli demonstrated his dominance over others with a strike rate of 154.70 across all games played during this season.
In New York, on June 5th, team India will kick start its T20 WC campaign with Ireland match before facing arch-enemies Pakistan on June 9th which promises to be an electrifying contest.
This will be followed by another game against USA scheduled for June 12th before moving on to Lauderhill, Florida where they are set to lock horns with Canada on June 15th.
