On Tuesday, floodwaters entered their habitations in Eluru district and villagers erected makeshift tents in the Agency area.
Villagers trekked to nearby hills to pitch makeshift tents because many habitations in the Agency area were entered by the floodwaters on Tuesday.
50.5 feet water level was recorded at Bhadrachalam in Godavari while it is still on the second warning.
“Flood level may increase for three more days in the rived-bed habitations. If there is rain in the catchment areas in Peruru, Dummugudem and Eturunagaram within the next 48 hours, water level may rise further,” they said.
Hills were climbed by several villagers at Medepalli, Koida, Narlavaram, Thotakuragommu, Repakagommu, Nemalipeta and other habitations and erected makeshift tents.
“We cleared the bushes and erected tents with the tarpaulins distributed by the officials. However, we are afraid of poisonous reptiles and snakes which come in the floodwaters,” said a villager, Arjuna Rao.
11k people affected
About 11 thousand two hundred people were affected due to floods that occurred at Velerupadu, Polavaram and Kukunur mandals. The officials have relocated around 6 thousand three hundred villagers to 21 relief camps.
Ten villages had been affected according to Collector K. Vetri Selviwho who visited Dacharam relief camp on Tuesday where about 235 houses were damaged due to floods.
“You should move into our relief camps as per my order so that you can access rice plus dal; milk plus drinking water; biscuits including edible oil; vegetables or fruits that will be issued out by collectors.” These are words of Mr.Vetri Selviwho
It has become necessary for all relief camps to have special officers who will ensure that food, milk, drinking water and other essentials are supplied at all times when needed.
“We will continue all the relief camps till floodwaters recede from all the habitations. Tarpaulins have been distributed to all the families staying in the river-bed villages,” Mr. Surya Teja said.
Boats were arranged
The boats have been arranged for shifting of villages from Koya Madhavaram, Tirumalapuram, Katukuru, Ramavaram, Naarlavaram, Koida, Lachigudem and other villages which were visited by Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore.
“Police along with NDRF and SDRF were pressed into service for relief and rescue operations. About 12 boats have been arranged and more boats were kept ready for emergencies,” he said.
Depatments like Revenue; Sachivalayam; Panchayat Raj; Medical and Health; Police; ITDA etc., are among others have deployed teams in these habitations which are ravaged by floods officials said.
