According to his vice-captain Jones, USA has high belief in her abilities to challenge and defeat full member sides in the T20 World Cup. This will only happen if they play ‘proper cricket’ and reach their potential.
The USA as one of the co-hosts of the tournament has secured their place amongst the Super Eight. After an A group match against Ireland was cancelled due to rain both countries earned a point each.
USA began with a 7 wicket triumph over Canada before later securing an exciting super over victory against experienced side Pakistan, making their debut in this competition memorable.
“Definitely looking forward to that (Super Eight) for sure. We have shown in the last couple of weeks that we can compete and beat some of the full member nations,” added Jones after yesterday’s game (PTI).
In super eight stage, USA will face eminent teams such as South Africa or West Indies or England. He is positive about their best standing against global top teams.
“To be honest with you, not many people pay attention to US cricket. I guess everyone does not know how much talent we have here and how good these players are here already; maybe that could be our little edge but definitely on any given day once again…” he remarked.
This implies that USA has already qualified for 2026 T20 World Cup alongside advancing to the Super Eight stage.
“It’s a big thing for us honestly speaking. For the past few years we have been talking about playing in world cup, playing more games against full members, etc… here we are doing it right now so obviously qualifying for Super Eights is really good”, he said.
“For us even now at present it’s a big thing that probably also qualifies us for 2026 World Cup too. You know it’s really good for us, like I said before I think even for fans all around the USA it’s really good. Really we’re saying thank you to them anyway, not only to fans but also for younger generation in America it is really good”, Jones concluded.
