Litton Das was instrumental for Bangladesh as he scored a valuable century at a time when the team was struggling at 26/6 and eventually got all out for 262 against Pakistan in the second test match at Rawalpindi on Sunday. His 138 run innings came off 333 ball efforts which also included an important 165 run stand for the seventh wicket with Mehidy Hasan Miraz who contributed 78 runs. This great mouthful of the scoreboard ensured that the match remained within reach.
Rescue act
Bangladesh were really in trouble and at 26/6 were level on their lowest total when losing the sixth wicket which they had set when losing before to SA in Durban in 2022. This time around, however, where in the other occasion they were all out for 53, Bangladesh was able to recover- the highest total after being six down for fifty or less and recovering. And that was easily surpassed when Pakistan advanced the score to 255 for 41/6 against England at the Oval in 1967. Litton Das’ unique record
Litton Das was more than motivated- it was test match cricket pressure for him- when Bangladesh was reeling at 26/5, having lost five batsmen for that score and then was batting to achieve and even notch up 4th test century. India chase down the highest score in Test match cricket history without any Loss on ODI style batting by Rish Hakim. However, Das encountered and recorded late-thesis centuries before this by going into bat at No. 4 on 49/4 vs Pakistan in Chattogram 2021 and No 5 on 24/5 vs Sri Lanka in Mirpur 2022. Litton Das is now the only person to score three tests hundreds and come No 6 or below with the team score of 50 or less.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz breaks Moin Khan’s record
Mehidy Hasan Miraz who played this innings scored a whopping 78 runs which is now also the highest score made by the no 8 batting when the team total is under 30 which was career best for Mehidy in this innings. The previous best score was Moin Khan who scored 70 runs against India in Kolkata during 1998-99 season when Pakistan was see in also at score of 26/6. Mehidy’s innings was crucial in anchoring the team total with Litton Das.
Historic stand
There has never been a more thrilling and significant innings partnership for Thailand n wicket with Litton and Mehidy sharing a 165-run partnership respectively. It is the first time it has been recorded that a team reached the fifty mark with a seventh wicket or lower partnership contributing more than one hundred and fifty runs. This had been beaten by Jonny Bairstow and Jamie Overton putting on a partnership of 241 runs with the scoreboard reading 55/6 in England’s innings against New Zealand at Leeds in 2022.
Two bold rearguard actions
In this series, Bangladesh managed two seventh or lower wicket partnerships of 150 or more runs. In the first Test, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz put on a partnership of 196 runs for seventh wicket. The only other occurrence of two such partnerships in a series took place in New Zealand’s tour of South Africa in 2006.
Bangladesh, thanks to the determination of its players, Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, did not let the match drift away, which threatened to be a dull match. Sahriar Nafees’s and Mosaraf Hossain’s fifth wicket stand did not only guarantee that Bangladesh reached a reasonable score but also proved the strength of the lower order batsmen.
