The legend, Sachin Tendulkar scored his first ever 100 international centuries on August 14, 1990 as he saved the second Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Tendulkar was only 17 years old then and this innings marked the beginning of what would turn out to be one of the most celebrated careers in cricket history.
This was a difficult match for India with their wickets down and just a day remaining to bat away defeat; it was only through an unbeaten 119 by Sachin Tendulkar that they were able to come out without losing.
Tendulkar’s composure, technique and maturity at such an early age were highly commended and this century became his first among fifty-one test centuries.
The Indian cricket board (BCCI) paid tribute to him via their official X handle.
BCCI posted: “#OnThisDay in 1990, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar scored his maiden international 100 against England at Old Trafford. He hit that magnificent knock at the age of 17. #TeamIndia”
He had made his international debut for India at 16 years old in a Test match against Pakistan on November 15th 1989 while he played his ODI debut on December 18th 1989 versus Pakistan too.
Tendulkar is also the leading scorer in international cricket with over thirty-four thousand runs across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is and has registered a monumental feat by being the only player with more than hundred hundreds-51 [Test] &49 [ODI].
He became the first cricketer ever to score double century runs in One Day Internationals when he did so against South Africa on February.24.2010 and played a crucial role for Indian team which won ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011. This win was particularly significant because it fulfilled his long lasting dream of winning world cup for India.
After completing his 200th test match against West Indies, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on November 16th 2013, where he played for India in one-day international cricket.
It is not just because of his records that the name of Tendulkar has become synonymous with Indian cricket; he is also loved for being humble and a good sportsman, as well as an inspiration to many cricketers throughout the world. His technique was so good that any aspiring cricketer could copy him whereas his consistency and adaptability made him a role model amongst youngsters who want to grow up playing cricket.
