“When I came to live in Lagogarh with my engineering degree after my father’s death, Mr. Kasturchand Kathari, a businessman from the old city of Lagogarh came to meet me. He said, ‘Raja Saheb, everyone’s goal in life is based on Indian Idiom letters… “K se Kamai” (make enough money to feed your family), “G se gehna” (use your savings to make jewelry), “Gh se Ghar” (if you have savings after building a house), and Earn fame,” Digvijaya Singh said in a Hindi post on X.

“He said, ‘You’re lucky, you don’t lack for food, jewels or a house, now it’s just about ‘earning fame.'” I have been trying to do this for 50 years in politics and I can’t judge for myself how successful I have been, only Only ordinary people can do it, this is the last election of my life and you will decide how successful I am. ,Digvijaya,” he wrote.
Digvijaya Singh, son of Balbhadra Singh of Lagogarh (Gwalior), began his career in 1969 when he was elected as the Chairman of the Municipal Council of Lagogarh political career.
In 1977, in the post-Emergency elections that saw the Congress wiped out across the country, Digvijaya won from Lagogarh parliamentary constituency and won Lagogarh twice, in 1998 and 2003.
Digvijaya entered the Lok Sabha in 1984 as an MP from Rajgarh. However, in 1989, Digvijaya lost from Rajgarh to Pyarelal Khandelwal of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 1989, the BJP was part of the Janata Party alliance led by Vice-President Manmohan Singh, which defeated the Congress party at the Centre.
As the Janata Dal coalition government soon collapsed, Digvijaya regained his seat in the 1991 Lok Sabha elections. When he returned to state politics as chief minister for 10 years, his brother Laxman Singh won the next five Congress seats.
Digvijaya Singh currently serves as a member of the Lok Sabha and is a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee, the party’s highest decision-making body.
In what he calls his “last election”, Digvijaya Singh is running against two-time BJP MP Rodmal Nagar in the 2024 elections from his home constituency of Rajgarh Compete for seats.
The veteran Congress leader, who represented Rajgarh in Parliament in the 1980s and early 1990s, is returning to his home state after three decades. The Rajgarh constituency will go to polls on May 7, which is the third phase of the ensuing general elections.
