Virat Kohli is considered one of the world’s most notable and successful cricketers, renowned for his aggressive batting style, leadership qualities, and consistency across all formats with an indelible mark on cricket.
Virat’s passion for game coupled with his insatiable hunger for success, has made him one of cricket’s most respected figures.
From 2013 to 2022 Kohli served as the captain of Indian cricket team in all formats. Under his leadership India made it to the finals of a number of important tournaments and became a dominant force in test matches.
Kohli though has been one of the prolific run scorers in international cricket, having scored over 70 centuries across formats. Among other records he broke was fastest to reach 8000, 9000, 10000 and 11000 ODI runs.
Kohli’s career has had periods when he has been out of form even though it is common among top athletes who are at their highest level. One of the most popular slumps during this period occurred between 2020 and 2022
There is now a video trending on social media where Kohli talks about overcoming difficult times in life.
“How you react to those times when you don’t feel good about yourself or anything else, how you ride that wave and accept things the way they are. It’s a very tender thing when you know that you’re not going right but then you feel like I don’t want to do anything I don’t want to work hard anymore I dont want go practice i dont wana go gym work hard But still as an individual your respect towards all phases doesn’t stop man. So even in your bad patch it also means that every time I have committed myself to work hard no matter what because there is no good side behind my efforts right??? so its not based on success, its not…its just effort. And ultimately this is what god tests you. This is how I look at it and if you’re not up to the test then you are basically not being grateful and not being loyal to the opportunity that’s been given to you.”
From November 2019 until September 2022, Kohli went through a century drought in international cricket, something very unusual for such a top player. During this time, starts were frequent but there were few number of big scores that came by.
This period has seen immense pressure from captaincy which eventually led Kohli stepping down from captaincy in all formats by the end of 2021 and later from RCB’s captaincy. Some people believed his batting performance was affected by extra responsibilities.
On June 29th India broke their jinx of not winning any global title since 11 years by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final of T20 World Cup.
A nail-biting seven-run victory for India marked the end of the match as Virat Kohli scored an authoritative 76 runs. He had failed with bat throughout the tournament but saved his best for this moment before retiring from T20I cricket.
