West Indies turned the tables in a dramatic fashion to beat United States of America by nine wickets in an ICC T20 World Cup Group 2 Super Eight match at Barbados’ Bridgetown thanks to opener Shai Hope’s unbeaten 82.
According to PTI, the West Indian batsmen carried their excellent 128-run win against the USA in 19.5 overs into the chase to knock off the target in 10.5 overs, make a total of130/1 and win the game convincingly.
This victory enhanced West Indies’ position on Group 2 Points table after they were beaten by England by eight wickets on Wednesday. The Caribbean side has now slipped to second with two points and Net Run Rate of +1.814.
Hope (82 not out) and Nicholas Pooran did most damage for their team at Kensington Oval. Hitting all areas of Park against bowlers from USA. Johnson Charles got out early after playing a few shots for his 14-ball innings of seven runs including two fours only.
With four fours and eight sixes, Pooran scored an unbeaten 27 off just thirteen balls while helping Hope. Who smashed seventy-one runs (eight fours and sixes) off thirty-nine balls faced as both players went about making light work of American attack with their right hand batting-wicket keeper combination.
As the first became Wicketless Partnership between himself and Charles. Which was followed by another partnership that lasted for so long with Pooran not being dismissed. Once again this season having made rapid-fire not outs this year thus WI surged ahead as it took control.
The hosts opted to bat first; they were well contained by Andre Russell (3.5-0-31-3) and Roston Chase (4-0-19-3). Who kept themselves busy fielding.
Russell’s Chase stopped Taylor at point when he was on two before Nitish Kumar (20) and Andreis Gous developed a steadying pair to move ahead of the game, but both fell short despite decent starts.
This led to America’s collapse since in the eighth over. Gous who scored 29 from 16 balls hitting three fours and a six was caught by Alzari Joseph at deep midwicket. Motie had Nitish lbw on 20 off just nineteen balls with two boundaries.
The Americans henceforth could not trouble West Indies as their next batsmen fell cheaply one after the other while the hosts steadily took wickets to prevent any momentum shift.
USA captain Aaron Jones (11) was cleaned up by Chase. Who seemed unplayable then Chase removed another experienced bowler Corey Anderson for seven leg before.
Finally, Charles caught Harmeet Singh off the first ball he faced ending his string of good scores from previous match against South Africa playing for USA. So that West Indies remained dominant over United States.
