There is a lot at stake in the USA vs Ireland game in Group A of the T20 world Cup on Friday, but flooding in Florida and more heavy rain has been forecasted that means the match may be washed out to favor the home team.
The Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida will host all three remaining matches in Group A. It is one of three venues across the US hosting some of the group-stage matches of the T20 World Cup. The other two are situated in New York and Dallas.
Friday can witness another historic moment for USA as they get a chance to progress into ‘Super 8s’ stage during their maiden appearance at T20 World Cup while bad weather in Florida can make it even simpler.
If the game gets rained out, USA will move to five points and finish second behind group leaders India – making these two teams enter ‘Super 8s’. That means India vs Canada (June 15) and Pakistan vs Ireland (June 16) would be just a formality.
However, if weather permits an outcome-based match on Friday and Ireland defeat US, this will revive Pakistan’s campaign. Hereafter, Babar Azam-led side ought to beat Ireland and that will take Pakistan through to next stage of tournament knocking USA off by net run-rate.
According to AP report, for three consecutive days now heavy rainfall and flash flooding have affected parts of Florida due to storms running from west coast towards east coast with many areas experiencing them until late evening hours raising risks of flash floods tonight” .
Meteorologists have also warned Floridians about continued danger of flash floods following tropical disturbance which brought as much as twenty inches or fifty centimeters of precipitation over southern states’ regions; hence things are likely going getting worse on Friday.
Yesterday’s heavy rain caused flooding from Fort Lauderdale down towards Miami central.
However, forecasters say that rainfall totals may be higher with an additional 4 to 8 inches expected with some areas receiving more than 10 inches.
