The powerful ICC Board will talk about the losses they incurred when it convenes on July 19, during this year’s annual conference of the world governing body in Colombo. The assumption is that USA leg of the T20 World Cup was over budgetted.
Because auditing is not complete and the amount realized through gate receipts (ticketing) has not yet been fully estimated, it is difficult to know the extent of losses.
Nevertheless, leading board members suspect that millions might be lost during the US part of the event.
Parami News has it that Chris Tetley, Tournament Director has stepped down as revealed recently though sources privy to this claim that he had made up his mind much before the tournament began.
“Tetley’s performance hasn’t satisfied many members. He had tendered his resignation but it can’t be said that USA leg of the T20 World Cup has got anything to do with it,” an ICC board source told Parami News on conditions of anonymity.
“Management work is never ending having a minimum three ICC global tournaments and all associate nations getting T20I status.” “It’s believed Tetley decided long ago to quit.”
From those who have been involved intimately in putting together such an affair suggests strongly that ICC would make real money from selling tickets.
However, some powerful members at ICC feel unhappy about New York City being one among key places for this event.
The Nassau County Cricket Stadium outfield and pitch became highly controversial due to preventable factors.
The event was supposed to be held in America, there were other cities except New York where matches could have been played. Why did we think otherwise?
This strip did not see any practice matches played on it which was certainly unsuitable for top flight cricket,” added our source.
