India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj expressed his happiness after scoring seven runs that played a crucial role in India’s six-run victory over Pakistan at the T20 World Cup.
No.11 batsman, Siraj managed to block some deadly yorkers from Pakistani pacers and collected three doubles/twos (two of them were helped by overthrows) and single from just seven balls. This was only the third innings he had as a batsman in T20I, which also happened to be his highest score in this format – a very important factor in low scoring encounter.
“Even i practiced alot on it even IPL I practice because whatever runs you tailenders score are very crucial at the end of the day siraj says in a video released by BCCI,”I used to say earlier that my 7 runs were important only at last. I am happy with those seven runs and it is good for me having taken away the game.”
Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal praised Rishabh Pant who played an outstanding knock of 42 runs and took three big catches. When asked about his favorite catch, Pant played down the praise and praised ‘Miyan’ Siraj for his fielding efforts.
“All catches are favourite because when you come after so long you want to do well in everything,” said Pant. “Meantime this World Cup has just started so my focus is just on putting effort but today Miyan fielded really well so he deserves a bit of praise too.”
Siraj also talked about his bowling display. Despite not taking any wicket, Right-arm quickie was economical giving away only 19 from four overs thus maintaining pressure on opponents.
“It’s India versus Pakistan it’s a big occasion,” he said. “So my plan was considering small total then should not try too much, keep it simple n execute it well and if the batter takes risk n hit from there then its just a good shot. I was just trying to keep bowling at the same spot.”
The all-rounder’s contribution with both bat and ball was vital in India winning by a narrow margin, highlighting that every player counts in high stakes matches.
