Afghanistan’s shocking win over Bangladesh on Tuesday (IST) and subsequent historic entry into their maiden World Cup semifinals, completed the ‘Super 8s’ stage of the T20 World Cup to determine the semi-final line-up.
Undefeated India led the Group 1 with six points as Afghanistan ousted Australia to finish second in position with four points that saw them through to the semis. South Africa qualified for the last-four stage in Group 2 as leaders with six points, followed by defending champions England on four.
The teams are:
Semifinal 1: South Africa vs Afghanistan, June 27, 6 am IST
Semifinal 2: India vs England, June 27, 8 pm IST
The main thing about this stage of semifinals is that while there is a reserve day for the first semifinal; there is no such for the second one.
Should any of the two semis end in no-result, then based on better performance during ‘Super Eights’ phase of tournament that would mean South Africa from semifinal one and India from semi final two.
The final has been schedule for June 29 at Barbados.
