T20 World Cup 2024: Tournament format, groups, India matches and everything else you need to know | Cricket News | Parami News

Starting off, the ICC’s biggest showpiece event, the 2024 T20 World Cup will be the ninth edition of the tournament. It will be jointly hosted by America and West Indies in Dallas beginning with a match between hosts USA and Canada.

The following information is required for you to know about this championship:

TEAMS: 16 previously but now it increased to twenty

HOSTS: West Indies plus United States

TOURNAMENT DATES: June 2-June 29 (Indian Standard Time)

VENUES: There are three grounds in USA and six in Caribbean

TOTAL NUMBER OF MATCHES: Fifty five

GROUPS

Group A – India, Pakistan, USA, Ireland, Canada;

Group B – England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, Oman;

Group C – West Indies New Zealand Afghanistan Uganda Papua New Guinea;

Group D – South Africa Sri Lanka Bangladesh Netherlands Nepal.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

In each group there are five teams at the start who play once against every team from their respective groups.

Only two teams from each group will qualify for super 8s while others fail to do so.

Each of the four Super eight groups contains four teams. A team plays all other teams in its group just once.Top two teams from each group after ‘Super 8s’ stage make it to semi finals where winners move on to the last round.

vs Ireland; June 5th; New York; 2000 hrs

vs Pakistan; June 9th; New York;2000 hrs

vs USA; June12th; New York ;2000 hrs

WARM-UP MATCHES:

Following that these seventeen sides will feature in warm-up games scheduled between May27 and June1 which shall permit all fifteen members of their squads to play in these matches.

India’s only warm-up match is against Bangladesh on June 1.

SUPER 8s STAGE

June 19-June 24.

SEMI-FINALS

June26,Trinidad and Tobago

June27, Guyana

FINAL

June29,Barbados

IMPORTANT-PLAYING CONDITIONS

If the super over also ends up in a tie, it will keep going on with super overs until finally a winner emerges or a decision can be made.

Besides June 26 being an extra day, only the first semi-final has a reserve day and there is time allowed for 60 minutes of extra time to complete the game. If not, the game moves to June 27.

For instance, the second semi final which has been planned for June 27th will have an additional 250 minutes to play if needed.

June 30 is kept as a second option if anything goes wrong with regard to June 29 during the finals.
