The triumphant Indian team, who on June 29 won Men’s T20 World Cup, has finally touch down at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi in the early morning hours of Thursday.
Rohit Sharma-led side registered their second T20 World Cup win at Kensington Oval last Saturday by beating South Africa by seven runs in a cliff-hanger. But hurricane Beryl had interfered with their return home travel plans, leaving them grounded for three days.
The BCCI then arranged a special chartered Air India flight for the team named ‘AIC24WC’ (Air India Champions 24 World Cup). The Boeing 777 flight came from Newark, New Jersey and arrived at the Grantley Adams International airport in Bridgetown during the wee hours of Wednesday.
At 4:50am local time, this special flight also carried Indian team support staff, players’ families, BCCI officials and 22 traveling media persons.
Upon landing in New Delhi, ITC Maurya will be house to the T20 World Cup winning contingent who will have breakfast at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg together with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a felicitation meeting.
From there they are scheduled to land in Mumbai at 4 pm after having taken off from New Delhi at 2 pm. This victorious team will then board an open bus from National Centre for Performing Arts (NPCA) through which it will participate in victory parade between 5pm and 7pm.
This open bus victory parade will pass along Marine Drive before ending at Wankhede Stadium where fans could catch glimpse of their favorite players who brought home a major trophy after elven years. From 7 to 7:30pm there will be small function to felicitate winners’ Indian team before they disperse to hotel.
