NEW DELHI: On Thursday, Nitish Kumar Reddy all-rounder for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) made history in his cricket career by being the most expensive player in Andhra Premier League (APL) T20 ever.
Nitish has become the talk of the town with his explosive batting skills and effective fast bowling both in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) where he is currently plying his trade for SRH.
It is such a rarity to have pace-bowling all-rounders, especially from India, that at just 20 years old, he is hailed as one such future star.
In an Instagram post on its handle, APL showed Nitish’s highly emotional reaction to the bidding process. Godavari Titans got him for Rs 1.56m which was a huge price.
From seven innings in nine matches played so far in IPL 2024, Nitish has an average of 47.80; his score off bat is over152 runs per match during this season with two fifties while his unbeaten innings of 76 against Rajasthan Royals came off 42 balls and included three fours and eight sixes. This innings won SRH the game. He also claims three wickets at good speed including figures of 2/17 against Delhi Capitals.
Started from 2022 as a domestic T20 competition by Andra Cricket Association consisting of six teams like Bezawada Tigers, Coastal Riders, Godavari Titans, Rayalseema Kings, Uttarandhra Lions and Vizag Warriors are part of it too. The league has featured international Indian players including Srikar Bharat and Hanuma Vihari.
Hyderabad-based team will face off with Gujarat Titans at their home ground on Thursday. After winning seven games out of twelve encounters leading to fourteen points SRH is one win away from securing play-off berth and maintaining third position in the points table. On the other side, GT is out of the race as they won five games, lost seven and one was a no result giving them 11 points.
