It was a big surprise when Pakistan struggled against USA during the T20 World Cup match and recorded some of the poorest powerplay totals in tournament’s history. In their Group A clash in Dallas, Pakistan managed only 30 runs in the first six overs losing three wickets.
USA’s decision to bat first paid off after Saurabh Netravalkar, Nosthush Kenjige and Ali Khan each took a wicket that led to collapse of Pakistan.
Pakistan experienced their most embarrassing moment against West Indies at Mirpur in 2014 when they ended up with13 runs at the end of the sixth over. The West Indian bowlers never showed any mercy to them for they batted really fast, thereby taking out most of Pakistan’s best batsmen as fans watched speechlessly as an unpleasant record was set.
Lowest powerplay totals for Pakistan in T20 World Cups
13 vs WI, Mirpur, 2014
28 vs ZIM, Perth, 2022
29 vs NAM, Abu Dhabi, 2021
30 vs NZ, Sharjah, 2021
30 vs USA، Dallas، 2024
Pakistan’s batsmen once again had a tough time facing Zimbabwe’s attack at Perth in 2022. The bounce and pace of Perth pitch combined with disciplined approach by Zimbabwean bowlers meant that Pakistan could only manage to score just but twenty eight runs in the first six overs.
Abu Dhabi 2021 was another year that saw them face Namibia. However Pakitan was able to collect mere twenty nine runs despite this less formidable opponent because Namibian bowlers demonstrated wonderful control and skill throughout each part of their game.
Similarly at Sharjah on low slow track against New Zealand’ s sticky wickets where Pakistans struggled for form trying hard to reach thirty runs within power play period. This match emphasised how important it is for teams to adjust and be able to survive in varying conditions.
