Pakistan’s bowling line-up, which he said is the strongest for the upcoming T20 World Cup, has been rated by the former Pakistani cricket star Shahid Afridi, to commence on June 1st.
Pakistan’s exit from AFCON 2021 could be seen as a continuation of their previous tournament where they finished runners-up and were one of the favorites heading into this year’s event.
Abbas Afridi, Shaheen Shahid Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah are among Pakistan’s pace attack a fact that Afridi emphasized about in an ICC video posted recently on social media.
“No team in the world has such a strong bowling line-up like we have. All our four quick bowlers are very skillful; even those warming up benches like Abbas Afridi have got good slower balls,” stated Afridi.
He also expressed confidence that these bowlers would perform beyond expectation when facing big hitters from all around the world.
However, Ramiz Raja, who was once chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), fears this may not be enough. According to Raja, Shaheen Shahid Afridi should actually work more on his technique so that he can bowl in different ways especially when swing is absent.
“Shaheen Shah Afridi’s bowling. You know if it doesn’t swing and he bowls full length then he gets hit everywhere. He should develop length ball and change of pace especially when it doesn’t do much off the surface,” observed Ramiz during his YouTube channel comments after Pakistan went down by 23 runs against England in their recent second T20I match.
On Tuesday, Pakistan will play England in Cardiff in what could prove to be a critical third T20I match where they will hope to address these concerns while sharpening their strategies ahead of the World Cup.
