Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi, a fast bowler, is being investigated for allegedly misbehaving with the national team’s coaches and management at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
According to an ANI report Geo News of Pakistan has reported that Afridi had acted inappropriately leading to a line of inquiry as to why there was no follow-up on this matter.
This incidence came into open after former cricketer Wahab Riaz voiced his opinion about it. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), however, fired him from the national selection committee on Wednesday. While Riaz was informed by PCB that he was no longer needed in their selection panel, Abdul Razzaq who sat on both male and female selection committees received similar information. This followed their exit from ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 held in Australia where they were eliminated at group stage after losing to USA and India.
Riaz went on a social platform X to express how he felt about his removal while vowing allegiance to Pakistan cricket.
“Much can be said but I do not want any part of the blame game,” wrote Riaz.
He further underlined his devotion as well as loyalty towards Pakistan cricket during his term in office.
“The end draws near for my tenure as a member of PCB’s selection panel; just let my people know that I have been faithful, sincere and given my all for the betterment of Pakistan cricket,” he said.
Riaz also stressed out that each vote casted by any member carried equal weight and ensured that everybody worked together through the voting process. He also praised Gary Kirsten-led coaching staffs’ vision for the team.
“I have every confidence that these team plans put together by our coaches will ensure we continue our growth as a dominant force moving forward and I wish them nothing but good luck on this journey,” he added
PCB has announced it will restructure the selection committee soon. More details will be shared later about its new makeup.
