Sachin Tendulkar has been sledged throughout his iconic life whenever he inundates the bowlers from every part of the world with runs, however, one hardly sees this softheartened batting maestro sledging benchers.
Recently, one such video from the cricket archives has resurfaced on social media, where the Indian batting legend could be seen in a fight with former Australia captain Steve Waugh in the 1999 World Cup.
It is hard to know the date or year of such a match, but at least one can dare say that the ‘Little Master’ was not yet a batting mauler, even mixing in leg spin and other changes in pace from a short run up. He was assisting Waugh’s innings and exchanged words.
Sachin Tendulkar and Waugh could be able to shout out to each other and say a few words and even, gestures were made to the other while the two stood back to back in the video. However, it was Tendulkar who eventually surfaced victorious in that fracas.
Having crossed his legs for a six while trying to impress Sartaj Tundulkan, Waugh was jettisoned at long on by Ajit Agarkar adding up the 100th ODI wicket to the famed bowler’s record.
Sachin Tendulkar’s batting was always appealing to millions of fans all over the world and even his bowling was much adored. And Tendulkar himself was always very accustomed to adding something for the team while fielding and this is reflected in the 46 and 154 wickets that he took in Test matches and ODIS respectively. He was not very successful in T20 leaguing as he managed to pick only one wicket in the only T20 in which he played.
Sachin Tendulkar retired from the game in November 2013 with the chartbuster of 100 international hundreds (49 ODIs + 51 Tests) and this was before making a retirement. Only last month, one more Indian batsman Virat Kohli has surpassed this target by making his 50th ODI century.
Tendulkar was active in playing 200 Tests and got 15921 runs at 53.79 in average. In ODIS this runs productivity was different in a miserable sense as he managed to make 18426 runs at an average of 44.83 in 463 ODIS.
Besides his 100 international tons, Tendulkar made 68 half-centuries in tests and 96 ODI half-centuries.
