Rohit Sharma’s previous two innings at the ongoing T20 World Cup has showcased that he tries to lead from the front which causes team confidence and makes ‘Men in Blue’ invincible. That is exactly how this tournament has gone for India, who have won all their matches en route to the final, where they will take on tournament’s other unbeaten side South Africa on Saturday in Barbados.
Semifinal against England turned one-sided with Indian spinners after Rohit Sharma half-century (57) and Suryakumar Yadav 47 helped 2007 champions set a challenging 171 for 7 on board.
It was a torrid night for English batters as Kuldeep Yadav (3 for 19) and Axar Patel (3 for 23) gave them nightmares, succumbing to the guile of left-arm Indian spinners were bowl out for 103, resulting in India having a massive win by sixty-eight runs.
“Bhartiya spinners ne kamar tod ke rakh di England batting ki. Par uss se pehle jo mela sajaya woh Rohit Sharma ne sajaya. Kya aala innings kheli hai,” former Pakistan captain Ramiza Raja said on his YouTube channel.
“Mushkil pitch ke upar badi badi shots kheli unhone, lajawaab batting ki, jab chahte hain impossible angle se badi strokes lagate hain,” Ramiz added.
“In such situations when the captain plays like that it is like there are eleven captains playing together. Despite Virat Kohli’s failure he did not stop attacking at the other end.”
The former Pakistani skipper also hailed Suryakumar Yadav’s performance.
“Suryakumar Yadav jis match mein zyada bara hai uski performance wahaan zyaada hoti hai. I haven’t seen more imaginative T20 batsman than him because the angles he creates no other batsman can at the moment in the world,” he said.
According to Ramiz, India have all bases covered and hence are the best bet to beat South Africa in the final.
“They have self-confidence, a good captain, bowling resources, temperament is rock solid because they keep on winning (giving them the belief that) we can win from any situation, any position.”
