As he looked at the beach, Rohit Sharma carefully held the T20 World Cup trophy on his hands. The expression of a world champion was yet to be fully assimilated by him even though he wore a smile of calmness. That win broke the curse of more than ten years.
“It feels dreamy. It seems like it doesn’t happen. Even though it has occurred but it seems as if it did not happen,” Rohit told BCCI TV after 24 hours sharing his thoughts.
Currently, Bridgetown is experiencing a hurricane and this reflects exactly the state of mind of Indian captain. For Rohit though, controlling those emotions which are about to crash onto him like a roaring wave is an uphill battle.
“I mean last night we had fun, we had blast with teammates till morning.” He said grinning before becoming little emotional and added “I would say I hadn’t slept properly so absolutely fine for me” and there is lot of time for me to go back and sleep.”
As he described how it felt leading India back to an ICC title in 11 years, he said “I want to live this moment every minute each second that passes by I will try make the most out of it.”
From when the game got over till now it’s been a great moment; that’s the emotions and feelings you have,” said the skipper
Rohit’s outstanding performance at top-order, especially during knockout stages earned him place in team of tournament. But what preoccupies his mind now is immense sense of relief.
“We have dreamed about this for such long period, we have worked hard as unit for such long period and this (the trophy), having with us feels quite relieve too”.
“When you work hard towards something and finally get at end feels really nice,” reiterate skipper.
