Rishabh Pant, an Indian wicketkeeper-batter, was engaged in a rigorous net-practice session on Tuesday ahead of India’s first match against Ireland in ICC T20 World Cup billed for Wednesday at New York.
Men in Blue, who won their first ever T20 World Cup held in 2007 are looking forward to winning the first ICC trophy since they won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.
Pant is very important for India because after his near-fatal car crash last December 2022 he even returned to competitive cricket during IPL 2024 as captain of Delhi Capitals.
Delhi Capitals finished sixth with three wins and seven losses; However, it can be seen from his runs that Pant has been the highest scorer with 446 runs which were made off 13 matches while having NRR above 155% including three half-centuries.
In this warm-up game against Bangladesh at Nassau County Stadium, New York, Rishabh Pant showed how good he was by scoring quickly an unbeaten fifty-three from just thirty-two balls with four boundaries and four sixes. This played a key role in scripting India’s win by sixty runs.
Indian team participated in two practice sessions over the past few days. Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma had joined on day one. In particular Rishabh Pant had some remarkable shots amongst Patel’s and Khan’s bowling during these net practices.
This will be Pant’s maiden international match since the accident when paying against Ireland hence making it a huge moment of his return journey.
