Captain Richie Berrington remained unbeaten 47 to guide Scotland to a five wicket victory over Namibia in their ICC T20 World Cup Group B match at Barbados on Thursday.
After having been denied because of the same venue’s climate in their first match two days ago, Berrington commanding innings of 47 from 36 balls (two fours, three sixes) and Michael Leask’s timely contributions of 35 from just 17 balls (four sixes) led Scotland through with three overs and nine balls to spare to make a total of 157 for five.
This combination which comprised off Erasmus’ all round play was too much for Gerhard. He made the highest score with his bat making a total of $52 while taking two wickets at the cost of twenty-nine runs in four overs. Unfortunately, it happened in the eleventh over when bladesmen were at seventy-three for four.
Batsman Erasmus returned an impressive total of fifty-two runs off thirty-one balls (five fours and two sixes), rescuing his team after they had started poorly at nineteen for two chose to bat first. Erasmus lost his wicket by being stumped by Michael Leask who bowled him out as an off-spinner.
The Scottish triumph also owed much to seamers Brad Wheal and Brad Currie who dragged Namibia back from what looked like a score that could have come closer to the mark of around one hundred seventy, especially with David Wiese, their super over hero from Tuesday’s win against Oman still there.
In this context, it is worth mentioning that Wheal took Wiese out then Zane Green as well achieving three wickets costing only thirty-three runs during this game.
Currie(2/16) opening alongside Wheal was effective even towards the end where he helped keep namibians on check as young bowlers accounted for final four wickets falling in last two overs.
