Team India will be playing three of their four group stage matches of the T20 World Cup at Nassau Stadium in New York and head coach Rahul Dravid is a little worried over playing conditions at the newly built facility.
Dravid shared his views on the conditions after their one warm-up game against Bangladesh on Saturday at the venue, pointing out that it was a little soft for the ground and also felt spongy for the pitch.
Dravid feared injuries and hence advised players to be cautious when they play at this new ground.
India’s first three games will be against Ireland, Pakistan and United States respectively on 5th, 9th and 12th June in Nassau Stadium before traveling to Florida for their final Group A match with Canada on June 15.
‘The ground is a bit soft. So I think tomorrow guys would feel it more on hamstrings and calves so it’s something we have got to work around and make sure that guys are taking care of themselves as sometimes it does feel a bit heavy below,’ said Dravid in BCCI video footage.
‘Little bit spongy sometimes but then I think we managed that really well. We batted first there on what was an above par score we felt. Then when we came out, we bowled really well’, he added.
India batted well enough in tricky conditions to reach 182 for five against Bangladesh during a warm-up game.
While wicket-keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant scored a quickfire fifty off just thirty-two balls before retiring hurt, all-rounder Hardik Pandya smashed forty off twenty-three balls not out which helped India reach a good total.
Bangladesh could only muster up 122 for 9 in twenty overs, thanks to some excellent performances by Indian bowlers acting together as one unit.
