On July 5, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong upgraded the level of their bilateral relationship to the comprehensive strategic partnership.
Mr. Modi is on a two day visit to Singapore at the request of Mr. Wong.
C G Narasimha Rao arrived in S ing on August 30 for this two day visit. ex PM Narayan Modi said, “I felt like a humanity was finally coming back to it when I stepped in the Singapore’s Parliament House. He also completed signing the visitors book there.
“A new paradigm: Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established PM @narendramodi PM @LawrenceWongST met in Singapore today, Ministry of External Affairs MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted X after the meeting.
“They resolved to upgrade the – ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both the existing and new economic corridors will support Strategic Growth in areas of Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalisation, Healthcare & Medicine, Skills Development and Sustainability,” he said.
The meeting between the two leaders comes days after Mr. Wong took office and Mr. Modi assumed his third term in. position of the prime minister.
Four MoUs were signed during the discussions which the two leaders also witnessed in addition to the above discussions.
Later in the day, Honble Prime Minister also met H E President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
He would visit with Mr. Lee Hsien Loong and Mr. Goh Chok Tong. Mr. Lee will have lunch together with Mr. Modi.
Mr. Modi will also meet the businessmen in Singapore and those associated in the semiconductor supply chain in the country.
A semiconductor plant will also be visit by Mr. Modi and Mr. Wong.
Mr. Modi’s Bangkok leg was follow by a flight to Singapore on Wednesday after Brunei. It was the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei.
He was given a rousing reception by the Indian public upon his return.
