The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) intends to install new floodlights at the stadiums in Karachi and Lahore for the Champions Trophy schedule for early next year.
It is part of other measures being taken to have smaller venues like Quetta, Abbottabad and Peshawar fitted with light towers to enable day night cricket played in bright weather.
To reduce costs, PCB is considering transferring current flood lights from Karachi to Quetta and Lahore to Rawalpindi.
There will be new light towers in Karachi and Lahore. The PCB has already started inviting tenders from qualified companies who can provide them on rent for the duration of one year starting from August 2024 till July 2025.
“…smaller venues are also equipped with light towers for domestic cricket and major venues like Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi where most of the international games and CT matches would be played get towers which ensure international standard and uninterrupted provision of light during matches,” said a source from PCB quoted by Parami.
Moreover, tenders have been invited for providing generators to cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Abbottabad, Quetta as well as Peshawar.
A member of the board’s staff noted that owing to fluctuations in power supply as well as load shedding problems; they were obliged to use generators that could supply electricity needed by floodlight pylons in stadia around Pakistan.
PCB is renovating its stadiums extensively including those situated in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi hence this implies that spectators will not be allowed into National stadium when Bangladesh plays second test match scheduled there later this week..
All necessary funding needed for stadium renovations have already been provided by the governing body within its budgetary allocation.
