New Delhi: Virat Kohli and rajapatidar Easily scored more than fifty before becoming a world class bowler that propelled the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to win by 60 runs at IPL on Thursday pushing their playoff chances alive.
Kohli’s 47-ball knock of 92 set the stage for RCB’s innings as he had two successful partnership thrived with Patidar, where they shared 72 off 32 balls and then with Green in another opening stand of 92 off 46 balls enabling RCB to reach a total of 241/7.
In response, Rilee Rossouw rampaged his way to sixty-one from twenty seven deliveries but two strikes by Karn Sharma led to a collapse with PBKS being all out for one hundred and eighty one in seventeen overs.
It was the fourth consecutive victory for RCB took them up to ten points while PBKS were bowled out with eight points, since they can only get twelve points from the remaining two games.
Singh ama Khan took two wickets each while Ferguson took two scalps for twenty nine runs whereas Mohammed Siraj picked three wickets while bowling for RCB giving away forty three runs
Chasing an imposing target PBKS lost Prabhsimran Singh (6) early but Rossouw looked unstoppable against left-arm spinner Swapnil Singh struck him for two fours in an over while Siraj went for three boundaries and a six
Then Jonny Bairstow (27 off15) and Rosso hit Yash Dayal and Ferguson respectively scoring sixteen and fourteen as PBKS reached seventy five after six overs
For his unbeaten fifty Green faced twenty one balls hitting two boundaries including a last ball six before he was caught off short pitched delivery by Rosseau who eventually finished on fifty from twenty one deliveries which included four
Karn dismissed Jitesh Sharma (six) and Swapnil got rid of Liam Livingstone (0) as Punjab slumped to 126 for the loss of five wickets in twelve overs
However, that was nothing when Shashank singh (37), Sam Curran (22) and Ashutosh Sharma (8 years old) returned into the shed and it was all over.
In the early part of his innings Kohli timed the ball well moving his feet and wrists thus making fifty runs off 32 balls and then forty in 15 He hit seven fours and six maximums.
Patidar also got a couple of lives that helped to infuse some early pace into the match by smashing three fours along with six full while scoring fifty five runs from twenty three balls
After Patidar was dismissed Kohli together with Green took RCB past two hundred runs mark. Green scored seventy seven off 46 balls including last ball out caught for five boundaries and one six.
The pacer Vidhwath Kaverappa made his IPL debut picking up two wickets during powerplay but his figures could have been better had the fielder not dropped three catches given away off his bowling.
Kohli was bowled in third ball by Kaverappa who went on to dismiss Faf du Plessis (9) and Will Jacks (12) but PBKS were unable to put pressure on Sam curran(1/50) Ed Harsal patel(3/38).
Ending a poor first game with three boundaries conceded at an economy rate of twelve Patel bowled Patidar’s first over contribution when RCB crossed the fifty mark after the end of power play.
Then starting at six in the evening, it rained heavily where Kohli as well as patidar decided to treat each delivery with disdain hitting them for maximums this affected Kaaveerappa’s figures.
Patidar then struck three powerful tops off spinner Rahul Chahar before having Arshdeep and Sam Curran hit two more sixes points, the last one scoring 50 in 21 balls.
This way RCB after nine overs passed the hundred run mark. However, it was in the tenth round that Curran’s escape from Patidar happened as a result of rain interrupting play for some time.
After his recovery, Kohli scored fifty and sent Livingston for two fours.
Green shot 150 and Patel shot 4. Kohli then went berserk as he slogged past Livingstone for a six and Curran hit a top-scoring 94 meters at mid-wicket. He sent a long delivery for another maximum.
Dinesh Karthik (18) made a cameo before Patel took three wickets in the final over.
