After this year’s T20 World Cup tournament, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has fired selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq because of poor performance by the national team. Their dismissal came after being bundled out of the tournament at group stage after losing to minnows USA who were also making their first ever appearance in World Cups.
On Wednesday, PCB said that the ranks of both selectors had been officially terminated in the national selection committee setup.
“According to a statement released yesterday, the Pakistan Cricket Board .. communicated to Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that they would not be part of them any longer as members of National Selection Committee setup.”
Razzaq served on both men’s and women’s selection committees while Wahab maintained his place on a seven-member male selection panel even though he was stripped of leadership earlier this year. They have now been relieved from duty.
Earlier PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had promised major overhaul following the team’s poor showing in world cup but decision to sack Riaz and Razzaq demonstrates how much commitment they have towards restructuring for better performance in future contests.
