India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, are the team that everyone else is trying to beat. They have had an impressive record of winning three out of four times T20 Asia Cup titles and all four editions of 50 over format.
The inaugural game will be between India, the defending champions, and Pakistan, their traditional rivals on Friday in a match promising fireworks. With the T20 World Cup almost upon us in October, all eight teams competing have one common goal: to fine-tune their strategies.
Nonetheless it was a moment of humor during a pre-tournament press conference that stole show. During India’s Bangladesh tour a journalist asked about lack of media coverage which made Harmanpreet make this funny remark.
“There have been concerns about importance of women’s cricket more so after the Bangladesh tour. Less journalists appeared at your press conferences. What is your take on this?”
But first Harmanpreet asked for clarification before responding with “Well, that is none of my business; you guys have to come and cover us.”
By saying that she not only emphasized growing attention on women cricket but also pointed out how important media has been in promoting the sport.
With 17 wins from 20 matches overall played so far in Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament, India is clearly dominating as they head into the competition today. They are reigning champions since beating Bangladesh in final last year.
Similarly they boast an equally formidable record versus Pakistan in short format games with 11 victories out of 14 encounters till date .
Given Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy and India’s red-hot form, their Group A encounter against Pakistan promises to be a cracker.
