Sophie Devine of New Zealand will relinquish her title as the Twenty20 captain following the Women’s T20 World Cup in October, states New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
Devine will still head the side in the 50 over format.
“I have taken on captaincy, which has its own facets and with it comes additional responsibility, something that I have also come to understand is not always easy to deal with”, said the 34-year-old in the 3 paragraph statement.
“Still, I do not think I will be around always; therefore there comes a time where I think it is wise to step one out of the matrix of captaining one format in the hope that the successors will have the time they need to get their footing.”
Sophie Devine of New Zealand who is the first player in T20 international cricket to hit six consecutive fifties in a row has led New Zealand in a total of 56 matches out of which she has won 25.
