The New Zealand team was eliminated in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024, which took place in the United States and West Indies.
Gary Stead has accepted that his future with the Black Cats is unclear and feels beyond his control.”
Stead’s position has become doubtful because they had performed dismally.
Despite reaching last year’s final, they have failed to find their feet in this campaign.
They were ranked at the bottom of their pool after two consecutive losses against West Indies and Afghanistan who it had never lost before thereby being unable to proceed to knockout stages.
If he would still be suitable to continue as the head coach, Stead left it for others to decide on that. He said he believed in the work put into trains by the side implying they tried putting out best preparation possible.
Stead said “lets others answer that question. “I can look at myself now with a mirror and know that we have gone through enough preparations,” Stead told Radio New Zealand ahead of Afghanistan’s win over Papua New Guinea, as quoted by AFP.
From start to finish there was hardly any enthusiasm from the team. That defeat came after an embarrassing loss for them against Afghanistan (13 runs). It should however be noted that Black Caps entered this competition not having even one practice match which might have led to underestimation of readiness.
