The eyes will once again be on Virat Kohli, who has so far failed to find his touch in the ongoing T20 World Cup and India’s Super 8s match against Bangladesh on Saturday in Antigua offers another opportunity for this batting legend to impose himself.
In the group stages of this tournament Kohli scored 1, 4 and 0 in three games while he made a run-a-ball 24 as India opened their ‘Super 8s’ campaign with victory over Afghanistan.
“If a powerful person hasn’t displayed his power then that guy hurts himself (and should) get hurt,” said former Indian opener Navjot Singh Sidhu on Star Sports commenting on Kohli’s dip in form.
Before I learn, I would need to fall, “he said. “Mujhe lagta hai Virat kohli mentally itne strong hain ke woh abhyaas se apni galtiyon pe haavi hona chaahte hain. He wants to overcome those (mistakes).
Kohli has been moved up from his usual position at number three by the team management to open with Rohit Sharma. However, unlike the prolific form as an opener for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL season which ended just before the start of T20 world cup, this move has not paid dividends so far.
Kohli was top-scorer of IPL 2024 scoring 741 runs.
India have won all four matches they have played so far in the tournament after defeating Ireland, Pakistan and USA during group stage and later beating Afghanistan in their opening super eight game hence eyeing for their second t20 world cup trophy alongwith first icc win after eleven years.
