Jaykumar Jani, a resident of Rabarika village in Bhavnagar district, has been arrested under Section 447 (criminal trespass) of the IPC, Assistant Commissioner of Police DV Rana said.
Jani told them that he was Dhoni’s fan and wanted to see him.
He crossed over the barricade and raced towards where the cricketer was batting, according to the official.
In footage surfacing on social media about this incident, Jani is seen bowing down at Dhoni’s feet near pitch then hugging him before being taken away by security personnel.
“Jani and his brother Parth came from Bhav Nagar to watch match. During DRS (Decision Review System) break Jani first leaped over metal barricade near black screen then ran towards pitch. After that they were soon arrested and were taken to Chandkheda police station,” Rana said.
He was formally arrested after an FIR was lodged against him on Saturday, said a senior official at Chandkheda police station
