India caught the attention of all their supporters by the standard of their catching on day four of the second test against Bangladesh in Kanpur. It was at Green Park Stadium on Monday when the last moment of the day’s play saw Mohammed Siraj caught Shakib Al Hasan at the time when the Bangladesh batter was in a standing jump courtesy of Siraj.
As soon as Shakib came down the track to Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian off spinner dived and took all upper hand with his head. When going for the lofty upward drive, Shakib lost the bottom-hand grip on the bat. The resultant shot was a skier with Siraj moving back towards the boundary line and taking position at mid off.
The ball looked on course to slightly clear him and drop positioned behind him. But the Indian fast bowler soared into the air following through an arch of his back away from the bay to place his left palm in the line of the ball and finished in elegant fashion.
Shakib (9) standing in his crease opposing any attempts to change tackle had an incredulous look whilst the Bangladesh score read 170 for 6.
A couple of overs before that, it was again India captain Rohit Sharma who came up with impressive onehanded catch at midoff to send Litton Das packing for 13.
Rohit leaped high to catch Lithon Das’ powerful shot for cover with one hand just above head level.
Following a further two days without play in the second Test, the action finally resumed and the Indians continued to give the Kanpur crowd reasons for sure celebration.
