According to reports in New York Post, on Friday a lawyer representing the builder of the Bayesian superyacht hag, which capsized off Sicily, lodged a claim for nearly $250 million against creative technology executive Mike Lynch’s wife claiming that the accident brought about ‘reputational harm’ to the company’.
Attorney Tommaso Bertuccelli represents the Italian Sea Group (TISG) in a lawsuit filed against Angela Bacares, Lynch’s widow, as well as the crew of the boat, blaming them for the sinking of the boat. The Complaint also alleged that TISG endured enormous business interruptions stemming from the sinking of the vessel.
‘Nevertheless, TISG soon distanced itself from the Belfer claim stating that it was not pressing charges and demanding Bertuccelli withdraws his claims.’ A spokesperson said, ‘The Italian Sea Group… rebuttals vigorously the allegations made in the Italian newspaper La Nazione in connection with a Bay Boat tragedy and subsequent litigation.’ ‘TISG has however placed such a general instruction on the lawyers listed in the article, no lawyer representing TISG has ever perused, validated or sanctioned any summons pleadings.’
British businessman Mike Lynch met his tragic end at sea after a storm lashed the yacht he was aboard to the tune of $40million on 19th August. The crash also resulted in the death of six other people including Lynch’s 18 year daughter Hannah Lynch. Other dead figures are Jonathan Bloomer, Chris Morvillo, Neda Morvillo, Charlotte Golunski, Ayla Ronald and Angela Bacares.
TISG has further elaborated if it would pursue recourse against crew members or Lynch’s widow. Giovanni Costantino, TISG Chief Executive Officer, earlier this week called the yacht as ‘UnSinkable’ and goes on to say it was human error that caused this calamity. Nevertheless, baritone’s manoeuvrings have drawn fire from those who claim his response or lack of it in this case is simply an attempt to relocate responsibility due to the intensifying PR catastrophe.
