Bhopal: sand mafia Killing of an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police shahdow district. The deceased has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahendra Bagri, 37, a resident of Singhpur in Satna and posted at Beohari in Shahdol district police station.
but Bagri and two of his colleagues went to Badoli village to arrest an accused. At around 11:45 pm, they saw a tractor loaded with sand approaching them near Khadoli village.
The driver, Raj Rawat, 19, was later arrested by other police officers along with Ashutosh Singh, son of the tractor owner.
Senior police officials have announced a reward of Rs 30,000 for the arrest of the tractor owner.
When contacted, SP Shahdol Kumar Prateek said, “The accused brought illegally mined sand from the banks of Samdhin river, about 8 km from the incident site. The late police officer along with his colleagues to serve a permanent warrant but when they saw the tractor trolley approaching they tried to stop it and the deceased got out and asked the tractor driver to stop but the tractor driver did not stop but ran over him. The defendants were arrested by other colleagues and the owner of the tractor is being sought.”
This is the second such incident in six months in the same district where two government employees were killed by the sand mafia. “We asked the tractor driver, who is only 19 years old, and he said he was scared and knocked down the policeman,” Prateik told TOI.
Earlier on November 25, a sand mining mafia chopped down a Patwari and pinned him under a tractor at Gopalpur village under Deolond police station in Shahdol district. The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Prashann Singh, who was posted as patwari of Beohari revenue department.
