Entering into the Super 8s stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, Harbhajan Singh, an ex-Indian cricketer has in truth warned Team India led by Rohit Sharma about the Afghanistan that is very soon to be faced by them which is a formidable challenge. The Afghans have defied all odds to book a place at this stage by beating Uganda, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea successively.

Even after being defeated by West Indies with a margin of 104 runs on Monday, Rashid Khan’s side remains hopeful as they head towards their next matches against Australia, Bangladesh and India in the latter stages of the tournament.

According to Harbhajan Singh who was interviewed by Star Sports, he complemented on how good Afghanistan could be at spinning bowling saying it was “the best in this tournament” something that makes them a major threat for India.

“They (Afghanistan) are a very good team. From the graph we’ve seen, they’ve risen significantly in a short period of time. They have Rashid Khan and Nabi. Their spinners are probably the best in this tournament. Their batting is strong; they don’t just play fluke shots or get out playing reckless shots. After playing in the ODI World Cup they now have experience. They almost defeated Australia,” stated Harbhajan.

Harbhajan insisted that some crucial moments should not allow anyone to underrate Afghanistan as this might lead to victory for them instead of those teams considered big boys.” This team has strength and can defeat any big team. And when they play against India, they shouldn’t be underestimated because if they win the toss and a few things go in their favour, (toh lene ke dene pad sakte hain) it could be challenging” he added while emphasizing Afghanistan’s penchant for delivering surprises.

India will play Afghanistan in Barbados on 20 June, followed by Bangladesh at Antigua on 22 June and Australia in St. Lucia on 24 June led by Rohit Sharma.
