Ex Pakistani batsman Kamran Akmal has been denounced as “Nalaayak” by former spinner Harbhajan Singh for his “racist” words about Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh at the high-voltage India-Pakistan encounter on Sunday in New York.

While he acknowledged an apology from Akmal after the incident, Harbhajan warned that such mistakes must not be repeated.

Harbhajan Singh told ANI (Asian News International) in an interview that, “This is totally absurd and an extremely childish act which can only be done by a Nalaayak man. Kamran Akmal need to understand that religion is something he should have no business commenting about or making jest of”.

“Kamran Akmal now let me ask you do you know who Sikhs are and what kind of sacrifice we have made for your community and mothers sisters see your forefathers history when clock strikes 12 midnight those mughals attacked our mothers and sisters so please stop talking like this,” added Harbhajan.

“It is commendable that he quickly realized his mistake and apologized but he should never again attempt to offend any Sikh or any religion. We respect all religions whether it’s Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism or even Christianity etc.”, further explained Harbhajan.

Akmal tendered a public apology on Tuesday following his controversial remarks which caused outrage. The panel discussion held on ARY News broadcasts disrespectful and inappropriate comments from Akmals’ side which elicited strong reactions particularly from Harbhajan Singh.

Kamran Akmal had stated, “Kuch bhi ho sakta hai… 12 baj gaye hai (Anything can happen. It is already 12),” in a video reposted by Harbhajan Singh. This comment was considered derogatory towards the Sikh community.

After receiving backlash, Akmal took to social media platform X to issue a heartfelt apology.

“I deeply regret my recent comments and sincerely apologize to Harbhajan Singh and the Sikh community. My words were inappropriate and disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for Sikhs all over the world and never intended to hurt anyone. I am truly sorry. #Respect #Apology,” Akmal posted.

Harbhajan had earlier castigated Akmal for his remarks, expressing his ire and disappointment.

“Lakh di laanat tere Kamraan Akhmal.. You should know the history of Sikhs before you open your filthy mouth. We Sikhs saved your mothers and sisters when they were abducted by invaders, the time invariably was 12 o’clock. Shame on you… Have some Gratitude,” Harbhajan wrote on X.
